A ‘walking simulator on energy drinks’ in the words of Hideo Kojima, this weird and wonderful title sees you surviving in a post-apocalyptic world filled with survivors, ‘Timefall’ rain showers that age everything they touch, nightmarish villains Cliff and Higgs, a Bridge Baby who helps you avoid Beached Things and a host of other weird and wonderful characters.
Continuing to redefine the action-adventure category, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 was a stunning and personal affair. A new level of depth for the characters in this PlayStation showpiece made the bigger moments feel all the more impactful, while a gorgeously expansive open world to explore made this a truly memorable experience.
2018’s God of War – or, to give it its proper title, God of War: Ragnarok – is another jaw-dropping PlayStation 4 exclusive. This reimagining of the series takes Kratos to a Norse-flavoured world and adds questing alongside his son to the rage-fueled hack-and-slash action that fans know and love.
Resident Evil 2 has long been hailed as one of the series’ finest early entries, and this modern remake is one of the best games that the PS4 has ever seen. With a super-tense, ultra-terrifying game engine that sets a new standard for horror games and a stunningly crafted setting and story, this is the kind of remake that will be regarded as a classic in years to come.
